Boat journeys in London will soon be booked on the Uber app, following the partnership of the Thames Clippers commuter service being rebranded Uber Boat.
The partnership is expected to roll for at least three years giving Uber the naming rights to the fleet of 20 Clipper boats and piers from Putney to Woolwich Arsenal.
The expansion into river travel is just one of the new diversifying deals for Uber to occupy through its app. Following the hard hit to business due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Uber revealed a quarterly loss of $2.9 billion. The US company having been through its ups and downs are also diversifying into the meals on wheels market, having acquiring Postmates just this week, a meal delivery company for $2.65 billion.
Thames Clippers are a service that is used by 4.3 million people per year and are essentially adding a seamless uber app booking system to the list, which will deliver a QR code as their scanable ticket. Existing means of payment will still be valid, such as contactless and Oyster cards.
