Sailing is a sport that continues to thrive and grow in popularity especially in the UK, amid Great Britain’s Olympic success in recent years, as well as the expansion of sailing clubs across the nation, meaning more and more people are finding an accessible club just around the corner.
One factor that may stop the sport from really taking off, is the perceived difficulty that many water sports activities seem to possess. Phoenix Outdoor Centre is going a step further to kill this myth, by hosting a taster weekend for the public, with the aim of proving just how easy and enjoyable sailing is; inspiring many individuals to get on the water themselves.
On Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th May, you can head down to the Brent Reservoir just a short distance from Wembley Stadium and take part in an hour and a half session of kayaking, sailing or windsurfing. These starter sessions are available any time from 10:30 am to 16:00 pm on both days. You’ll just need to make sure that you book your interest in advance on the Phoenix Outdoor website, and there’ll be a small charge per session, all for the cause of promoting watersports within the UK. The event is inclusive to all and is advertised for anyone from age 9 to 99.
It’s all a part of the RYA’s ‘Push The Boat Out’ scheme which aims to allow the public to get access to exclusive clubs across the country and perhaps discover a new hobby. These events are available at hundreds of participating venues nationwide, and to find another event near you, you can search on the RYA site right here. Wherever you live there’s an opportunity for you to get on the water and give it a go, for the whole month of May!
Check back to the PTBO calendar frequently to make sure you don’t miss these rare opportunities, available for one month only.
