Boat Club Trafalgar have recently chosen a brand new Merry Fisher 795 Marlin, made by Jeanneau, to join the Club’s boat share fleet. Key to the new boat’s selection criteria was finding a sophisticated, all-rounder suitable for family fun, practical cruising as well as some serious fishing.
The Merry Fisher 795 Marlin ticks all of these boxes, offering the Club’s members a great choice for a variety activities and levels of experience, as well as carrying up to 8 passengers.
“We wanted to get a bigger boat for our more experienced members, who want to push further afield, go fishing or stop overnight. We really liked all the space on board the Marlin 795 for a boat of this size, both above and below decks. You can easily carry SUPs or skis onboard and there’s plenty of room for our members to take family and friends out too." - Manager of Boat Club Trafalgar, Steve Rodwell.
Fishing is very popular with many of Boat Club Trafalgar’s members, and the boat, named Calypso, came equipped with a fish well, two rod holders and storage for up to five rods.
For cruising adventures to the beach, there’s two easily accessed flush bathing platforms on the stern and a fresh water deck shower too. Other essential criteria for the boat’s selection included all the comfort features on board, such as a fridge, fresh water sink, toilet and cushioned bow and stern seating for relaxing on. The saloon settee also converts to make another double berth.
“The boat has great handling, with a deep V hull and good seakeeping. It’s easy to manoeuvre too in tight spaces, as it comes with a bow thruster,” adds Steve. “Importantly, she was delivered unrigged, meaning with could fit her with a new Yamaha 200HP engine, consistent with the rest of our fleet. Our members love the fact they can just turn up and go boating, in a brand new, well equipped and well maintained boat, with a highly reliable engine.
The walkaround cabin makes moving around easier and a roomy cockpit for relaxing. Inside is bright and airy, and the spacious cabin has plenty of storage and a heater, which extends the cruising season for our members right through the winter months.”
Boat Club Trafalgar member, John Barnard comments “The new boat not only looks the part but is a lovely experience to skipper. Really stable for fishing and plenty of comfort for those on board. The bow thruster takes a bit of getting used to, and I can already see how useful it could be. It’s certainly a step up from the boat it replaced and for a larger boat with a bigger engine it was pretty efficient on fuel. I can’t wait to get out on it again – Magnificent!”
Since Calypso was first commissioned in July 2020, she’s already proving popular with members and is already being used for fishing trips around four days a week.
